Bernadet van Essen (1960) wants to bring the observer beauty and inspiration so this person comes to his or her core. Man who thinks about life, going deeper than the surface, she wants to touch with her work.

Bernadet works mainly out of intuition, although she actively searches to discover what hides behind the things as we see them. She also asks a more philosophical question about worlds in worlds and the meaning of things. What is behind it? What could be there? Is it possible to lead the observer into another dimension?

Her inner images are accompanied by atmosphere and mood. Bernadet loves mystery in a playful way. Exactly that is so attractive to her public. They let themselves be led by feelings and beauty, not by 'rules of art'. Objective observation plays a secondary role in her work; more important is the depth and the atmosphere an image evokes.

Bernadet has a strong inner landscape; images that go further than this world. To express her inner images she continuously searches for new forms. Abstract photography or digital image processing and digital drawing are examples.

This versatility, as well as in her work (techniques) as in her personality make her somewhat elusive. She fits in many slots, but doesn't need slots. This makes her grandiose and in dependent.

Also in her photography she is engaged with the other world. In everyday thing Van Essen sees something totally different that she catches ruthlessly wit her camera. In her work the world appears to have been brought to a standstill. Objects and (city)landscapes occupy an important space. We see threatening skies and a sinister atmosphere. The silence springs into the eye first and the mood makes one think of an imminent thunderstorm. And yet her work breathes openness, peace and quiet, in which there's ample space for the fantasy of the observer.
